Review of Aquarium (& Pond) Power Head Pumps

Do not choose the about.com (mentioned in a previous post on fish as pets), but after an email form on an amateur aquarium power heads / pumps I thought I would investigate what was said in the tests and found an article that analyzes five different power heads.
Either they are from another planet or living in a parallel universe!

First, that included two of the best aquarium power head pond / water pumps and their comments were very different from my experience with these letter bombs in the 100S, even thousands of tanks in the past years in my aquarium maintenance company.

Here are six bombs I review (including replies to your comments):

* Generating new king of the aquarium pumps water from the pond "> Resun; this pump (power head) has been completely on his list, but not as well known in Canada and the U.S., which are very popular in Asia and Australia. Resun has dimensions such that the # 6 that are very capable for most environments "Mucky" pond still works very well. These pumps are very reliable and trouble-free startup, which also charge very high pressure (in fact, one of the best)! Resun pumps can be submerged or save online.
Models 3A, 5 and 6 are impressive in demanding applications such as ponds or aquariums where very high flow and pressure head up is needed (and the ability to handle large amounts of debris in the water).
About the Convention is that, with only its robust construction, these pumps may be a little more noise than others (although still not bad here either). Resun power heads are not as adjustable speed as any other power heads, but a minor inconvenience IMO.

* Water Pumps "target =" _blank "> Via Aqua, which is a real workhorse of the pump line is used widely in the community of professional aquarium maintenance for the moment not even mentioned by about.com (Go figure!). For the aquarium sink (usually in marine applications) Aqua Through 2600 and 3300 are unprecedented in the utility.

Seeded energy through Aqua (as with Resun and Rio) are not adjustable flow as some other heads of power, but a minor inconvenience IMO. This disadvantage is more than offset by the versatility! I also admit that a couple of models Through Aqua that I would not recommend due to the less desirable and sustainability 2300 and 4900.

* Rio de Janeiro (by Taam), although no longer a preferred pump for me as the person who founded Rio Via Aqua progress and improvement in some of their problems. These pumps are still excellent, IMO even if I agree in part with its own assessment about.com, I think they go to sea with his comments on the maintenance. Rio power heads are very strong pressure from the head striking (depending on model).
The disadvantages are the wheel (although very durable) that seem have problems in settings (especially in ponds or aquariums sales) that have a lot of debris and organic matter in the water column. However, remain very good to begin when used as responsible for the waves and are properly maintained. These pumps are adjustable interest rates

* Maxi Jet Power Head, I have to agree with most of the about.com in their evaluation of these pumps. They are reliable and cost and start again with ease, even when used as wave makers. However, they have their disadvantages, and they have a poor head pressure and are not very versatile (unlike Aqua Via, Resun and procurers of River), since only heads of power and nothing else.

* Penguin Power Heads, I disagree in general with the assessment of about.com power over these titles. Despite showing a characteristic of the speed versus combustion head for UG filters (which are not very frequent, but more), another feature interesting feature is the adjustable rate.
However, these features of Nice is the power of these leaders have a poor record of reliability, have a load of very low pressure, and not start again right after the bombing have been in use for some time (in applications such as wave makers).

* Hagen Aqua Clear power heads, the pump is also worth more from about.com on my experience with them. I Aqua more open than other heads of power (including Via Aqua pumps now generally recommend). When the first leaders to have no electricity, were industry leaders in design, but they are a technology for 1980 IMO and, while better than penguins and reliability of the discharge pressure, still would not stop and resume some of my applications in which the power was briefly interrupted, even making a poor choice for applications Wave Maker. Aqua Clear power heads also does not address the high loads While organic waste and require more maintenance than the rivers that claimed about.com needed!
In short with Aqua Clear power heads is retro pumps that are reasonable, but certainly not the latest technology!

* ZooMed Power Sweep, but I sold my business, it is rarely recommended. Are Gimmicky essentially a head to the supply pressure heads of the poor and low production. They are not real and lasting "scan" output of the steering is administered by the plastic gears of the market rather often. These pumps do not handle very high organic loads and is best used in small aquarium or nursery better or no, is your high demand.

SUMMARY:
I had people ask me why too many brands such as Via Aqua not are not as available as the brand Hagen inferior quality that nobody wants?
The answer is very simple; Hagen is sold through an extensive network of major distributors Pet Store (although now the transition own home distribution). This system promotes a whole or nothing to market their products which means that basically carry the whole line (good or bad) or obtain discounts or sale of any why. This marketing system has been a great success (not to mention the slick packaging), but this does not mean a better product.
Through Aqua (among many other premium brands) do not sell to traditional modes of distribution and marketing, rather than sold importers of high end in many marine fish and the like, without all the expensive marketing gadgets. This in certain places of their products in the hands of professionals to maintain an aquarium that does not care about slick marketing or is the fashion, rather, whether it works and why Via Aqua and many other similar high-end businesses choose to sell in this way.
